Eastleigh to miss top scorer James Constable for rest of the season

boss Chris Todd wants his side to win promotion for top scorer James Constable after the striker was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The former Oxford United man, who has scored 15 goals for the Spitfires this term, missed Saturday's 2-0 win over .

It was later revealed that he was in hospital having his appendix removed and the 31-year-old is expected to miss the rest of Eastleigh's season, even if they make it into the play-offs.

A win for Todd's side at on Tuesday night would send them into the top five and he says Constable's bad luck means an opportunity for somebody else.

“It's sad news for James as he's a great lad and a great player for us,” Eastleigh manager Chris Todd told BBC Radio Solent.

“It would be nice to get James Constable promoted into the League. I'm sure he's probably sitting at home wishing he was with us as that's the kind of player he is.

“These things happen and you can't control the uncontrollables, but it gives someone else an opportunity.”
