ADAM LOCKWOOD has been tasked with guiding up the table after being confirmed as the club's permanent boss.

The 34-year-old former , Doncaster Rovers, Oldham and Bury defender stepped in to take charge of first team affairs after Mark Bower was sacked last month.

Despite overseeing two defeats to start his temporary reign, while the club are still marooned at the bottom of the table, Lockwood's side have only lost once in their last four games, drawing three.

The improved results and performances convinced the Nethermoor board to give Lockwood the job full time with the experienced former defender taking his first steps into management.

He will have plenty of experience to call on, however, with the club also confirming that former Doncaster Rovers, , Oldham and Bristol Rovers boss Dave Penney will serve as Lockwood's assistant manager.

The pair took charge of training for the first time on Thursday night as they prepared for Saturday's visit of with the Lions still searching for their first win of the National League season.

A club statement read: “Guiseley AFC are delighted to announce that Adam Lockwood has agreed to take on the role of first team manager, following his spell as interim manager.

“The club are very pleased to announce that the vastly experienced Dave Penney, who has won the National League twice, with Darlington and Doncaster, has agreed to assist Adam in his role.

“Adam and Dave took charge of training together for the first time tonight (Thursday). The club wishes both Adam and Dave well as they strive to improve our league position.”

Lockwood told the club's website: “We can't let our standards drop from where we started setting them, we need to maintain and keep improving them to move in the right direction.

“I said from day one that I will do my upmost to improve the team and the club. I have a great deal of passion for the club and I want us to do really well and control the controllables.

“I want to help the group of players achieve what they should be doing and that certainly isn't what we are doing now. We move forward and try and get some wins.”
