Tranmere Rovers complete loan signing of “fantastic talent” James Wallace

TRANMERE ROVERS boss Micky Mellon believes the loan signing of “fantastic talent” James Wallace makes the promotion hopefuls stronger.

Wallace, 24, returns to Tranmere on loan from League One side United following a previous two-year spell at Prenton Park.

The former Everton youngster, who has signed a short-term deal until January 8, initially joined Tranmere on loan before signing permanently in June 2012.

Over the next two seasons, Wallace became a fans' favourite with his committed displays, making 60 appearances and scoring four goals.

He left the club in the summer of 2014 to sign for Sheffield United but now returns to the Wirral to team up with boss Mellon again following a brief loan spell at Shrewsbury Town last season.

Mellon told Tranmere's website: “James will be someone who is well known to the Tranmere fans, someone I've worked with previously at Shrewsbury and he is a talented lad so he brings that quality into an already talented group and makes us stronger.

“He is in a good place at the minute. He has worked very hard away from Sheffield United with some really good fitness people and he has come through that whole programme now which lasted about a month.

“And he's also had two weeks training and is ready to play so I expect him to have a good spell here.

“He's a powerhouse, technically fantastic, brings leadership qualities and knows what the demands are to play for Tranmere so all of those qualities he brings to the squad now.

“When we get him going and he gets a run of games under his belt, what a fantastic talent he is and I'm delighted to have him here.”
