IN THE midst of another competitive season in the , boss Adam Lockwood is experiencing his debut campaign as a manager; but the former Doncaster Rovers, and Reading player reckons “nothing has surprised me too much”.

As a player, he lifted the League One play-off trophy, the EFL Trophy and the in an impressive playing career. Now he plans to emulate his success and conquer his next career path.

Lockwood spoke about the transition from player to manager.

“As a player towards the backend of my career I started taking notice of things in case I got a job in management or coaching,” he said.

“I think having a long, successful career, you're prepared for different things. There have been little surprises but nothing major. There have been problems I knew would occur, but nothing has really surprised me too much.”

It's been a season of mixed feelings for Lockwood at Guiseley. At home the Lions have mastered a run of six games without defeat.

However, form away from Nethermoor Park can only be described as less than desirable as Guiseley have only taken a mere three points from 13 games.

Lockwood firmly believes that his team, however, can turn it around.

“We'll just look to maintain our home form but hopefully improve our away form,” he said. “I've got ultimate confidence in the boys, it has been frustrating for me.

“I'm frustrated when we don't hit our standards away from home. We need to make sure we get some consistent performances and then results will take care of themselves.”

Lockwood's attitude to management seems to be a stern but fair approach.

He said “My job is to get the best out of the players, if I think they're capable then I will be demanding of them. Managers did that with me and brought the best out of me. If people want to do well for me then obviously, I want to try and help them be the best that they can be.”

While it's clear Lockwood has the attitude and the personality to succeed as a manager, what isn't clear is how Locky, as fans affectionately know him by, will fare in his first season as a manager.

It will arguably be his most important test, that could define him for the rest of his managerial career.
