Dover Athletic welcome star midfielder Nicky Deverdics back on loan from Hartlepool

have welcomed back former star midfielder Nicky Deverdics on a month's loan from League Two side .

The 29-year-old was instrumental in the Whites' fifth-place finish last season, scoring 14 times and clocking up 18 assists for Chris Kinnear's side.

The Geordie was on the shortlist for the Sport Shield Player of the Year at our in association with SCL and his performances attracted interest from the League.

And following the expiration of his Dover contract, he opted to return to his native north east with Hartlepool in League Two.

Deverdics has made 24 appearances for Pools, scoring two goals this season but hasn't played since the end of 2016 and has been sent out to get match fitness by new boss Dave Jones.

The goalscoring midfielder made a total of 94 appearances for Dover after joining in July 2014 and returns initially on a month's loan.

The former Newcastle, , and man is back at Crabble in time for Saturday's visit of in the .

The Whites are currently fifth in the table and will be hoping that Deverdics can rediscover the form that made him a wanted man last season.

A Dover statement added: “Dover Athletic are delighted to announce the loan signing of Hartlepool United midfielder Nicky Deverdics.

“Nicky of course needs no introduction to Dover fans after he captained Whites into the National League play-off semi-finals last season.

“The 29-year old Geordie, who is in line to make his return in our home league clash with Wrexham on Saturday, joined the League Two side last summer after spending two seasons at Crabble.”
