BARROW owner Paul Casson says spending big to turn Barrow into National League contenders is “part of the plan” after it was revealed he pumped £1m into the club last season.
Accounts recently filed by the club up until the end of May 2016 show that they have overall liabilities standing at £1,807,461 which is up from £816,707 at the end of May 2015.
Casson, who took over the club in 2014, has assured fans that the increase in debt is completely down to his own investment in the Holker Street outfit.
The £1m pumped into the club last term has helped build the foundations of a strong squad and Paul Cox's men still have an outside chance of a play-off spot in the National League this season.
Businessman Casson will return to England from his United States home to watch Barrow's final game of the season against fellow play-off hopefuls Dover on April 29.
And he says the large investment he has put into the club so far should not come as a surprise with Non-League's top tier becoming more and more competitive.
“It is 100 per cent money I have put into the club. There are no debts to anyone else,” Casson told the North-West Evening Mail.
