Newport County Sign Robbie Willmott From Rivals Cambridge

JUSTIN EDINBURGH says Newport County’s newest recruit, Robbie Willmott, will give the Conference Premier promotion chasers a “different dimension going forward”.

Willmott joins the Exiles from their league rivals Cambridge United, for whom he made 20 league appearances this season.

The 22-year-old began his career at Cambridge and featured over 100 times for them before making a £50,000 switch to Luton Town in January 2011.

He remained at Kenilworth Road until last summer when he was released and returned to Cambridge as a free agent.

The Harlow-born winger has now swapped the Abbey for Rodney Parade and goes into the County squad that travel to Lincoln City on Saturday.

Speaking about his arrival, Exiles boss Edinburgh said:  “Every time I have come across him as a manager he has caused havoc and he is one that I have kept an eye on for sometime and am glad everything has been completed.”

“He’s been involved in four play-offs, has experience at this level and will be a major boost for us as we head for the second-half of the season and aim to get back to winning ways.”

“He can play on either wing and will give us a different dimension going forward and I’m pleased to have him on board.”
