CHESTER FC have signed former Manchester United defender Danny Higginbotham.
The 34-year-old's arrival at the Deva Stadium is a huge coup considering his last club was League One side Sheffield United.
Prior to his spell with the Blades, Higginbotham spent time with some of the biggest clubs in the country, including Manchester United – where he began his career – Derby County, Southampton, Stoke City and Sunderland.
Higginbotham has signed a deal running until the end of the season and can't wait to get his Blues career underway.
Speaking to the club's website, he said: “I'm really looking forward to it, it's a deal that we've been sorting out for the last few weeks, and the last couple of weeks have been frustrating thinking it was getting close and then it wouldn't happen, so I'm glad its all sorted in the end and I can now look forward to my time here at Chester.
“I've enjoyed my career so far and played at the highest level, and this is a new challenge for me now, Chester FC is a great club, the club now has risen again and it looks a great place to be and being run by the fans too makes it even more special to be a part of.”
Higginbotham could make his debutin Chester's local derby with Wrexham tomorrow and the significance of the fixture isn't lost on him.
“If I can play my first game on Saturday then that is really something to look for as the local derbies are game that everyone wants to be involved in. I know all about the history of the fixture, so I'm really looking forward to it,” he added.
