PROPERTY investor Baron Bloom has been appointed chairman of Goole AFC and has immediately brought in a new managerial team.
Bloom has been trying to get involved in football for some time and has previously attempted to buy Conference North club Workington AFC.
That attempt failed in late 2011 but he has now taken charge at Goole, who compete in Northern Premier League Division One South.
And Bloom has moved to quickly to make an impression at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, bringing in David Holdsworth as manager and Curtis Woodhouse as his assistant.
Both are familiar names to Non-League fans.
Holdsworth has previously managed at Ilkeston, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City, while Woodhouse – formerly of Sheffield United – has played at Rushden & Diamonds, Mansfield and Eastwood Town.
Most recently, professional boxer Woodhouse managed at Goole's league rivals Sheffield FC.
Speaking about his appointment and that of the club's new managerial team, Bloom said: “For some time I have wanted to become involved in a Non-League club and see how far we can move it forward.
“My role, which will be completely unpaid, will be to assist in improving the club's revenue. All of this revenue will be applied to improve the club infrastructure and facilities as well as the on-field success.
“I am delighted to be involved with such a wonderful club, and together with the new board, I know we will take the club into many new arenas.
“We will be looking to work with the staff, the players and the fans and together we can take Goole AFC to ambitious new horizons. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all.
“I am very excited at the possibilities that this creates and I look forward to success, both on and off the field.
“We are delighted to have appointed such a heavyweight team and feel this is a real coup for the club.”
