FORMER Vauxhall Motors manager Carl Macauley has left his post as assistant at Chester to take up the reins at Marine.
Macauley worked wonders at Vauxhall in the Conference North but when Motors announced their intention to resign from the league and drop down to Step 7, the long-serving boss stood down.
He was quickly snapped up by Chester where he worked as Steve Burr's assistant but the Blues were unable to avoid relegation from the Skrill Premier.
And the club's intentions to explore full-time football led to Macauley considering his options before accepting a two-year deal at Evo-Stik NPL Premier Marine.
The Mariners finished a disappointing 20th this season, one place above the relegation zone, before boss Phil Brazier left the club by mutual consent.
Macauley, who brings assistant manager Gary Martindale and coach Anthony Wright with him from Vauxhall, said: “First of all I would like to thank the committee at Marine for providing me and my staff with this fantastic opportunity and we are excited and look forward to this new challenge.
“My first aim is to build a strong squad who are in a position to compete for a place at the top end of the table.
“Marine Football Club has fantastic supporters and I hope to provide them with attractive football and getting the results they deserve. This club has a great history and I hope to bring those times back to Marine.”
Chairman Paul Leary added: “The appointment of Carl as Marine manager is massive for our football club. He brings with him a wealth of coaching and senior Non-League managerial experience in his capacities at both Vauxhall Motors and Liverpool FC.
“I look forward to working with him and his staff for the next two seasons and hopefully beyond as we do our best to achieve Conference North status.”
