DARRAN FOSTER has resigned as manager of crisis club Daventry Town and their Easter Monday game at Rugby Town was postponed with the club unable to field a team.
Foster returned to Daventry in the summer for his third spell in charge but it has been a tough season and the club were recently placed under a transfer embargo.
Saturday's 5-0 defeat to Kidsgrove Athletic was their 13th in a row and left Town just two points clear of the relegation places with six games left to play.
Foster, who has also been running the clubhouse this season, stepped down alongside his brother Nigel, who served as club secretary, and assistant manager Neil Champelovier.
Foster said: “Well I should be sorry but unfortunately I'm not. This should have been done when my side got ripped to bits. What myself and Neil have gone through is criminal and we both will be holding our heads well above others.
“Thank you to many friends who have had to see the downfall which was completely out of our hands. Onwards and upwards with my head held very high.”
A club statement added: “This season started brightly for Darran and the Town however a transfer embargo, poor attendances and money issues have led to a number of players leaving and the squad numbers depleted. Town's last win came in a 2-1 success at Tividale on December 19, 2015.”
Their trip to play-off chasing Rugby on Monday was then postponed with the Northern Premier League saying it was due to Daventry being unable to field a team.
A league statement read: “It is with regret that due to Daventry Town being unable to field a team for tomorrow's [28/3] First Division South fixture away to Rugby Town the match is postponed.
“The Northern Premier League will not be making any further statement with regards to Daventry Town Football Club until such time a discussion has taken place as to the ability of the club to complete the seasons fixtures.”
