Business as usual for Workington despite chairman Glenn Heathcote’s resignation

WORKINGTON say it will be business as usual despite seeing chairman Glenn Heathcote step down due to work commitments.

Heathcote, a life-long supporter of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier side, became a director in the summer of 2013 and succeeded Humphrey Dobie as chairman in December of that year.

He was at the helm as the Reds consolidated following relegation from the Conference North and they have made the Step 3 play-offs in both of the last two seasons.

He informed the club’s board of his intention to step down before Christmas and attended his final game in an official capacity on Saturday as Workington beat Mickleover Sports 4-1.

Heathcote told the club’s website: “I am disappointed that I have to resign from the board but my day job has assumed increased responsibilities following a takeover of the company.

“However, I will continue to do as much for the club and help out as and when I can if required by the board, but not in any official capacity.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to have been associated with the club I have supported since I was a boy. The highlight was undoubtedly the play-off semi-final against Blyth Spartans last April and, like all Reds fans present, I will remember that fantastic game and magnificent performance by the team for a very long time.”

Directors Don Blackwell and John Mackay have taken over as temporary joint-chairmen while the club are waiting on FA approval to appoint Alec Graham and Mike Rollo to the board.

A club statement confirmed: “Supporters can be assured it will be business as usual as we continue to work hard behind the scenes to develop the club.”
