THATCHAM TOWN have announced their intentions to resign from the Southern League at the end of the season.
Thatcham were moved laterally from the Calor League Central to the South & West this season and are currently 18th in the table and have the lowest average attendance in the league at just 77.
Despite their on the field results, the club say they are struggling financially after failing to secure a new main sponsor and that Step 5 football would be more manageable.
A club statement read: “Thatcham Town Football Club has resigned from the Southern League due to failure in finding a replacement main sponsor for BMG after their three-year deal ended.
“The five week closure of the railway crossing has caused a massive fall in revenue, as well as rising maintenance costs, has left the club with no alternative but to drop to a lower level in an attempt to cut costs and survive.
“The club has some of the best facilities in the Southern League and with the population size of Thatcham deserves more local support.
“We hope this is a minor blip in the club's 120 year history and hopefully can recover and return to Step 4.”
It is now expected that only one club will be relegated from the Calor South & West, with bottom two Fleet Town and Guildford City battling it out to grab the last survival spot.
