Merthyr Town Close To Appointing New Boss

expect to appoint a new manager by the end of the week after the board reluctantly accepted the resignation of managerial pairing Garry Shepherd and Danny Carter in the aftermath of their second consecutive play-off final loss.

The 2-0 defeat at home to in the Calor South & West divisional play-off final signalled the end of the pair's eventful seven-year tenure at Penydarren Park that saw the club dissolved in 2010 before they led the reformed side twice to automatic promotion and two play-off finals.

The Martyrs' chairman, Meurig Price, told : “We're going through the process of searching for a new manager. We've had applicants applying this week, we shortlisted the candidates on Monday so hopefully we'll have a manager in place by the end of the week.

“It'll be a hard act to follow for him. In the last four years we've had two promotions and third and second place finishes. Next year we want to be able to go that one step further,” he added.

“We're striving for promotion and for it to happen we need to hold on to our players. They've stated their intentions to stay and we need to appoint a manager as soon as possible to keep the group together.”
