SOUTHERN Central strugglers Kidlington have appointed their former assistant manager Julian McCalmon as the club's new boss.

The Greens were champions last season and earned promotion but their debut Step 4 season has started slowly.

They had picked up just two points from their opening six games when manager Martin Wilkinson decided to step down.

Former Wycombe Wanderers striker Jermaine McSporran was placed in caretaker charge of the side and oversaw the 5-1 defeat at Ashford Town (Middx) on Saturday.

Kidlington, who also exited the at the preliminary round stage, have turned to a familiar face as they look to turn their fortunes around.

McCalmon served as Wilkinson's assistant last season during the championship winning campaign and returns to Yarnton Road ahead of Saturday's home game against .

A club statement read: “Kidlington FC are delighted to announce that Julian McCalmon is their new first team manager as the club looks to reverse its poor start to their inaugural season in the Central Division.

“McCalmon is no stranger to the Yarnton Road club as he was assistant manager last season and took the reins for numerous games when the manager was unavailable.

“McCalmon was quick to secure the services of coaches Jermaine McSporran and Paul Harwood who were both still at the club.

“The trio's first job is to turn around the difficult start to the season where the Greens have picked up only two points from a possible 21 and have exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle.”
