Barrow AFC have secured their second signing in two days with defender Matthew Elsdon arriving at Holker Street.
The 21 year-old joined the Middlesbrough academy aged 14 and fell into centre-back after previously playing as a striker for Sunderland.
Durham-born Elsdon became a regular for the club’s Premier League Two side before Middlesbrough announced his seven-year association with the them was to be discontinued with no new contract offered.
The 6ft 2in defender had a loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he made eight appearances for the Scottish Championship side. He also boasts four England Under 17 caps to his name, having featured for the Three Lions in the 2013 Nordic Under 17 Football Championship.
He joins National League side Barrow, who finished 20th last season.
