NORTHERN Counties East League strugglers Lincoln Moorlands Railway have resigned from the competition after being forced to postpone their game last Saturday.
Railway were already relegated from the Step 6 Division One having lost 36 of their 40 league games so far this season – conceding 173 goals.
They were unable to fulfil their fixture against champions Hemsworth Miners Welfare last Saturday due to a lack of players and the club have now resigned from the league.
Their remaining two league fixtures of this campaign will not be played and their playing record has been expunged.
Following last Saturday's postponement, the club's Twitter account posted: “Apologies to @Hmwfc for having to call today off. Long, hard and hugely underwhelming season has taken its toll.
“No budget, a club divided and issues within stop us from competing! I'm sure postponing now is a lot better than letting people travel to then have no team to play. We will still remain dignified in all that we do and keep fighting on.
“Not that we have to respond to stupid comments regarding the state of our club, but the state of the club is very substandard we agree.
“However, the core of this club will keep it competing with a full compliment of players next season, whatever league we're in.”
A Northern Counties East League statement, meanwhile, added: “At its meeting yesterday (Thursday), the NCEL management board accepted the written resignation/withdrawal from Division One by Lincoln Moorlands Railway with immediate effect.
“The two outstanding fixtures for the club will now not be played. The playing record of Lincoln Moorlands Railway for this season will be immediately expunged and the league table will be adjusted to reflect these changes.
“Fortunately, this withdrawal does not affect either promotion or relegation places as Lincoln Moorlands Railway were already condemned to a relegation place.”
