Central Midlands League North champions Glapwell fold

GLAPWELL have announced that they have folded just a month after being crowned as Central Midlands League North champions.

Three weeks ago, the Derbyshire club saw manager Jordan Hall, assistant John Styring and coach Mark Higginbotham all leave after ground issues at their Hall Corner home meant they couldn’t be promoted.

They won 23 of their 28 matches in the Step 7 league last season and were champions with 70 points having scored a whopping 148 goals.

All sorts of club records were broken along the way, including the highest number of home and away league victories, most goals scored in a season, most consecutive league victories and most consecutive league games unbeaten.

However, Glapwell were left off of the Central Midlands League constitution for next season at the league’s AGM on Tuesday night.

And the club, who were playing at Step 4 as recently as 2011, confirmed on Twitter that they will fold following one of their most successful seasons ever.

They tweeted: “Lots of stories going around. Can confirm though that we have folded and Glapwell FC is no more. #sadday #wentoutonahigh #champions.”
