CARTERTON have resigned from the Hellenic League Premier after suffering their second managerial walkout of the season.
The club, who won the Hellenic League Division One West last season, were left in shock on the eve of the current campaign when manager Ben Sadler decided to quit.
Most of the title winning players followed him out of the exit door and the club turned to John-Paul Hannaway and Sean O'Sullivan as joint-managers.
The duo have had a tough time putting a side together, however, with the Oxfordshire-based club having to postpone a number of their fixtures.
They have played just three times in the Hellenic League Premier and Carterton have decided to withdraw from the Step 5 league after Saturday's Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup tie at Tuffley Rovers was postponed.
Carterton were struggling to raise a side for the game, which has been awarded to Tufley, and that led to the resignations of Hannaway and O'Sullivan.
On their decision to resign, club secretary Nick Truman said: “It is with deep regret that after long discussions yesterday (Sunday) that Carterton FC have decided to with draw their first team from the Hellenic Premier Division. This decision was not taken lightly by the club's committee .
“After recent events with our manager resigning and the majority of the players leaving with him after winning the UHL Division One West the previous season, new managers were appointed and unfortunately after much hard work they were also let down by their new signings. This resulted in them also stepping down this weekend!
“Every one of the committee decided that it was in the club's best interest to ensure its survival that this action be taken!
“We would like to thank J P Hannaway and Sean Sullivan for their efforts and also Brian King, CEO of the Hellenic League, and his management team for their support. And sincere apologies to all those teams that have been affected.”
