THE funeral details for one of a kind former United Counties League registrations director and press officer Jeremy Biggs have been confirmed.
The popular 55-year-old passed away almost two weeks ago to send shockwaves across grass-roots football.
A well-respected statistician and correspondent, Biggs contributed news and reports from the league every week for the Non-League Paper.
Biggs' funeral will be at Peterborough Crematorium at 2.30pm on Monday, December 5 before the wake takes place at Stamford AFC, Borderville.
All are welcome but it is politely asked that no flowers are brought along with donations instead preferred to the British Heart Foundation.
Following the sad news, the UCL's facebook page administrator Dan Beaman wrote a glowing tribute.
“Everyone in the league knew Jeremy, some more than most,” he said. “He used to make a habit of visiting every UCL ground at least once a season, and he recently completed his mission for this season – as though fate would have it.
“He wasn't going to pass away without doing his rounds! Jeremy was one of a kind, an old-school football fan, happy watching the game whether it be a rainy Tuesday night at Buckingham or a big FA Cup game in glorious sunshine. He was there.
“The work Jeremy put in for the UCL over 30-odd years was staggering – only club officials will know how much time he put in. Even working up to midnight so players could play on the Saturday.
“There will never be another. No doubt his position will be advertised, and it'll take two or three people to do his work. The Jeremy Biggs' of grassroots football are no more.
“His garage and house are apparently a treasure trove of UCL and football memorabilia, hopefully the league will salvage some of those items as Jeremy was a walking piece of history.
“His knowledge of the UCL and football in general was second to none. I last saw him four weeks ago at Wellingborough Town, I was in the stand and he was at the opposite side by the dug outs, hounding the coaching staff for facts and figures.
“I wish I had said hello to him before I left, but as always, you think there will be another time. Rest in peace mate, you will be missed by many.”
