THIS contest took time to heat up after a delayed kick-off owing to a motorway incident which held up not only the visitors but also two members of the Chorley team.
To mark the occasion, two special teams have been put together. Chorley, with former boss Garry Flitcroft in charge, will include Andy Teague, current boss Jamie Vermiglio and Mark Ross.
Harry Scarborough, signed from the Magpies’ under-18s squad last month, produced the telling contribution with a penalty, just as it looked like the game was heading for a stalemate.
Bolton-born Mariner began his career with the Magpies in 1971 when the club were in the Northern Premier League – the highest level of Non-League at that stage, before the advent of the Conference eight years later.
Altrincham boss Phil Parkinson and Chorley’s Alex Newby are both in the spotlight on this week’s NL Full Time podcast after their sides recent heroics in the FA Cup and revival in the National League.
