LINCOLN CITY boss Danny Cowley believes the “fantastic” signing of midfielder Elliott Whitehouse gives him plenty of flexibility.
The 22-year-old has joined the Imps for an undisclosed fee from National League North side Nuneaton Town, signing a contract until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The attacking midfielder, who started his career at Sheffield United, joined Boro in September 2015 following stints at Notts County and FC Halifax.
Whitehouse was named Nuneaton's players' player and fans' player of the year and earned a call-up to the England C squad.
He missed the first five games of this season through injury but returned to form quickly and has netted six times in ten games from midfield.
Cowley says Whitehouse, born in Worksop, had other offers on the table but chose to join the Imps, who are currently sitting third in the National League.
“The signing of Elliott is fantastic for the club,” said boss Cowley. “He is exactly the profile of player that we are looking to bring to the club. He is young, talented and has a burning ambition to improve and be the best he can be. He will bring an energy, combination play and goals to the group.
“It provides us with flexibility regarding formations as he can play in the middle of midfield, at the top of a midfield or as a second striker. He is a local lad and we were only able to sign him due to his desire to want to come here.
“Nuneaton had substantially bigger offers from other clubs and Elliott could have earned more money elsewhere, however he was adamant that this is where he wanted to play his football. I think as a club that is something that we should be really proud of.”
