Boreham Wood add ex-Stevenage defender Dean Wells and midfielder Keiran Murtagh

have strengthened their backline with the addition of ex-Stevenage defender Dean Wells while midfielder Keiran Murtagh has also signed up.

Former Brentford youngster Wells made his name with before earning a move into the League with Stevenage in 2014.

The 32-year-old made 97 appearances over the past three seasons for Boro but will now drop back into after signing a one-year deal with the Wood.

Wells told the club's website: “It all fitted in nicely and I will be doing a bit of coaching in the academy as well which helped.

“I will also be able to start the college course that I wanted to with the days off that I will get, so I will be doing something that I love, while still playing football.

“I had a chat with the manager (Luke Garrard) and the chairman (Danny Hunter) and the direction that they are going in and the amount of time and effort that they seem to put in to the place convinced me.”

Wells is joined at Meadow Park by midfielder Murtagh, who arrives at the club on a two-year deal following three-and-a-half seasons with league rivals Woking.

The Antigua & Barbuda international signed for the Cards following a successful loan spell from Mansfield and, in total, made 133 appearances for the Surrey club.

Delighted Wood boss Garrard said: “On his day I believe that Kieran Murtagh can be the best central midfielder in the league, he has an abundance of ability.

“I am very happy, it has obviously been a busy period since the end of the season and we have been patient as a club because we are trying to get the right ones in.”
