Torquay United bring in Forest Green Rovers striker Brett Williams

believes the addition of striker Brett Williams gives  a “potent strike force” for the new campaign.

The 28-year-old started last season at League Two side Stevenage before joining Forest Green Rovers permanently in January after a loan spell in November.

He started against Grimsby Town in the promotion final at but was on the losing side as Rovers were beaten 3-1.

Released by new manager Mark Cooper, Williams will be turning out for their league rivals Torquay next season.

The forward, who scored 36 goals in 77 league appearances for Aldershot before moving to Stevenage, will join Nathan Blissett and, hopefully for player-boss Kevin Nicholson, veteran Shaun Harrad up front.

Nicholson told the club's website: “I think this signing will please a few fans. Brett is a proven goalscorer at this level. He did well at Forest Green last season and before that did very well at Aldershot where he pretty much averaged one in two.

“He'll bring competition for places up front along with Nathan Blissett and Shaun Harrad who we are hoping to bring back. If we can add Shaun then I think we'll have a potent strike force.

“It's so far, so good with the signings we have been able to make. There's a little more work to do in building the squad, then a lot more work to start pre-season well and reach our goals. I think Brett will be a big part of this.”
