PAUL ATTFIELD has stepped down as manager of Royston Town to take some time away from football due to health issues.
Attifled took charge of the Crows in November 2007 and went on to lead them to the South Midlands Division One League and Cup double in his first full season in charge.
Another title win last season saw the club promoted to the Southern League Central Division for the first time since 1984.
The Crows have also won the South Midlands Floodlit Cup for the past four years, making Attfield's spell in charge the most successful period in the club's history.
Speaking about his decision to stand down, Attfield told the Hertfordshire Mercury: “Due to a bad illness I have to take some time away from the game and therefore the day to day managing of Royston Town FC.
“Whilst I receive the necessary treatment and time out, my assistant Duncan Easley will take on my role assisted by coach Martin Paine for the foreseeable future.
“I will not be available for any further comment on the matter and would like to go on record as thanking chairman Steve Jackson for his support for my position.”
