Altrincham welcome ‘sharp’ striker Kane Hemmings on a free transfer

Altrincham boss Neil Gibson says Kane Hemmings’ “desire” to drive the club forward made him an ideal addition to the Robins’ National League push.

The 34-year-old arrives at Moss Lane on a free following his exit from Barrow at the end of last season, failing to score in 14 appearances as the Bluebirds finished dead last in League Two.

Hemmings is a well-travelled EFL veteran, having played for the likes of Stevenage, Tranmere Rovers, Burton Albion and Oxford United, while also turning out for Rangers and Dundee in Scotland.

However, he will make the step down to the National League with Altrincham this season, joining the Robins on Friday ahead of tonight’s home clash with FC Halifax Town.

Upon signing for Alty, Hemmings said: “I’m really happy to get this move over the line and I’m looking forward to getting started against Halifax.

“My first training session was positive. It was great to meet all the lads and coaching staff and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans.”

Gibson believes Hemmings has already made a positive impression in training and is confident he can make an impact for the Robins.

The Altrincham boss added: “Kane’s a player I’ve watched for a long time and he has great experience both in the EFL and the top levels in Scotland.

“After meeting Kane it was clear he has the desire to come and help drive the team forward. He’s someone who in and around the box has a good eye for goal.

“He’s given the players a lift in training already, he’s looked quite sharp and we’re excited to add him to the squad.”

Hemmings becomes the ninth addition of the summer for Altrincham, who have lost all three of their opening games of the National League campaign with just one goal scored.
