At the start of the month Basildon United looked to be a club on the cusp of a rapid upward trajectory.
A matter of months after securing promotion from the Essex Senior League for the first time in 27 years, the Bees sat at the summit of the Bostik North as the campaign rolled into November, having won seven of their opening 11 league games.
However, the club's superb start to the season appeared to disintegrate in extraordinary circumstances as a 4-0 defeat at home to Bowers & Pitsea three weeks ago saw Basildon knocked off the top spot, before the Bees were rocked by the resignation of manager Marc Harrison the very next day.
Now under the stewardship of former Chairman Lee Connor, who has swapped his place in the boardroom to take care of managerial duties alongside former Barkingside boss Michael Walther, the Bees are hoping to regain a degree of stability after a chaotic month both on and off the field has seen Essex based side lose ground on the promotion chasers.
New joint boss Connor told The NLP, “It's been a bit of a tricky time because we have lost a few players as well as the manager so we are still in transition at the moment.
“I have read a bit of criticism from some quarters about me choosing to go into the management side of things. However, it is not like I have no experience in coaching.
“I have previously worked as an assistant manager and have been in and around the Non-League circuit for a while. I may not have all of the badges but I think that I can bring certain attributes to the job that others can't.
