This week we will be taking a look at what the state of play is in each of the Step 3 divisions, first up is the Northern Premier League.
The Top
1 | Farsley Celtic | P39 | F80 | A40 | +40 | 87 |
2 | South Shields | P39 | F85 | A41 | +44 | 84 |
3 | Warrington Town | P39 | F67 | A31 | +36 | 83 |
4 | Nantwich Town | P39 | F67 | A52 | +15 | 69 |
5 | Buxton | P39 | F58 | A43 | +15 | 65 |
6 | Gainsborough Trinity | P39 | F53 | A40 | +13 | 65 |
The race at the top of the table has been one of the most enthralling battles this season but as things stand Farsley Celtic appear to have one hand on the title.
The West Yorkshire club secured a 2-0 win at Whitby Town to give themselves a three point lead at the summit with just one game left to play.
Nevertheless, Farsley do have a worse goal difference than second placed South Shields and know that if they fall to defeat at relegation threatened Marine and the Mariners come away from Gainsborough with a victory then the trophy will heading to Mariners Park.
On the topic of Gainsborough, Trinity need to beat South Shields and hope that Buxton lose against 3rd placed Warrington Town if they are to have any chance of reaching the end of season play-offs.
The bottom
18 | Marine | P39 | F39 | A52 | -13 | 40 |
19 | Stalybridge Celtic | P39 | F45 | A62 | -17 | 39 |
20 | Mickleover Sports | P39 | F35 | A60 | -25 | 38 |
21 | Workington | P39 | F37 | A68 | -31 | 29 |
With Workington already confined to Step 4 football next season, the battle to avoid the final relegation slot has gone right down to the wire.
As things stand, Mickleover Sports sit in the dreaded 20th position following their loss at home to Basford United on Easter Monday. Sports will need to record a win at Bamber Bridge on Saturday to have any chance of survival due to their worrying goal difference.
A Mickleover victory will immediately put the pressure on Stalybridge Celtic who face Grantham at home, while, as previously mentioned, Marine have their work cut out against league leaders Farsley Celtic.
