Nathan Tyson is vowing to pay off a debt of gratitude by firing Notts County straight back into the Football League
The 37-year-old, pictured, has told the Nottinghamshire Post he wants to score the promotion goals they'll need as he feels indebted to the club for convincing him not to retire during a torturous spell at Blackpool.
Former County boss manager Shaun Derry rescued the former Nottingham Forest striker from his time on the Lancashire coast with a loan spell back in 2014 after he'd failed to start a single game for the Tangerines following a switch from Derby County.
Tyson reckons his stint rekindled his love for football and is now determined to repay Neal Ardley's current County side with the goals they'll need to win promotion.
The frontman, who didn't feature in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Yeovil, said: “This club first took me in at a stage when I was questioning my career. I was ready to retire after having a tough time at Blackpool so I owe Notts a successful season.
“I regretted that move to Blackpool and I had a gut feeling that I should not have gone there but unfortunately it happened. It didn't work out and I was kind of sold false promises. Even to this day I still don't know what I did wrong.”
A pacey, left-footed forward, Tyson kicked off his career at Reading after making his first team debut in April 2000.
After joining Wycombe Wanderers on a permanent transfer in March 2004, he averaged a goal every two games to earn a move to Nottingham Forest for a £675,000 fee in January 2006.
Five and a half seasons later, he switched too Derby County in 2011 before signing for his ill fated spell with Blackpool and then manager Paul Ince in September 2013. Tyson joined Doncaster Rovers in July 2014 and spent two seasons with the club before moving to Kilmarnock in 2016 for a year.
