Mark Hughes supposedly left Carlisle United by mutual consent, which is a bit like that bloke on Louis Theroux’s manosphere documentary yabbing about one-sided monogamy.
It’s a verbal sleight of hand, designed to make it appear that nobody is getting short-changed or humiliated. Which, of course, they are.
Hughes didn’t want to leave Carlisle any more than those downtrodden wives and girlfriends desire a philanderous partner.
He was sacked, and that raises an interesting question: is the National League now the most ruthless division in the country?
