Billy Rowley: Zain Westbrooke brings ‘experience and control’ to Yeovil Town

Zain Westbrooke says he is “delighted” to sign for Yeovil Town following an impressive loan spell at Scunthorpe United last season where he became a key figure in their National League play-off push.

Westbrooke arrives at Huish Park off the back of a strong campaign with Scunthorpe, where he helped the Iron reach the play-off semi-finals in their first season back at Step 1, eventually falling short against Rochdale.

The 29-year-old midfielder reportedly attracted interest from several clubs in both League Two and across the National League, but Yeovil moved quickly to secure a player with significant Football League experience and a track record of promotion success.

Westbrooke has made over 220 senior appearances during his career, with major highlights including winning League One with Coventry City and lifting the League Two title with Doncaster Rovers.

Clever

During his loan spell at Scunthorpe, he contributed three goals and four assists in 34 appearances.

Yeovil manager Billy Rowley praised his new signing, highlighting both his technical ability and leadership qualities.

He said: “Zain is a clever, experienced midfielder who will bring a lot of calm to the team, but also the bite and competitiveness you need to win games.

“His passing range is top class. He reads the game really well, and he’s got the quality and personality to control matches.

“His experience will be massive for us over the course of the season, and we’re delighted to bring him to Yeovil Town.”

Westbrooke said he is excited to begin the next chapter of his career after ending his three-year stay at Doncaster.

“I’m delighted to sign for Yeovil Town,” he said. “Looking forward to playing at Huish Park and working under Billy.

“I can’t wait to get started and give everything for these supporters. Let’s make it a special season together.”

Westbrooke becomes the first signing ahead of Rowley’s first full season in charge at Yeovil.

He took over the club back in November and guided the Glovers to a 16th-place finish.
