Williamson's men went into the game looking for a fourth consecutive win and they broke through a dogged Farsley side when Cedwyn Scott fired them in front on the half-hour mark.

The former Carlisle United striker doubled his tally four minutes into the second-half before Adam Campbell stole the show with a stunning strike to secure the points for his side.

Chris Atkinson grabbed a late consolation for the visitors but Gateshead never really looked under threat at they boosted their hopes of a return to the .

After the game, Williamson told : “They are a decent team and our record against them isn't great so it was a good performance from the boys.

“We knew we had to perform and the levels we had to get to to get the result so that was pleasing. The whole team, our ethos is everyone defends together and everyone attacks together, and we look to raise the standards of both sides of the game.

“It's nice to have the two strikers scoring and the boys at the top end of the pitch are doing so well for us.

“But I thought Louis (Storey) and Carl (Magnay) were very good at the back and Bails (Owen Bailey) was colossal in front of them.

“It's disappointing to concede one, but we took the sting out of it after they scored and got the job done.”

Saturday's visit to relegation battlers is next on the agenda for Williamson and his players.

The Heed boss wants even more from his players as they look to continue their push for the National League North title.

“It's relentless but the lads are managing to overcome every obstacle put in front of them at the moment.

“It's now about watching the game back, getting our recovery right and focusing on the next training session in preparation for the weekend game.

“We have to look to keep improving and striving for the standards we want to reach as a club.”
