Nicky’s in focus to catch Ricay in pictures

A SUPERB 122-page book documenting the work of photographer Nicky Hayes has been produced on his five years with the New Lodge club.

The popular snapper of the South club has won several prestigious national awards for his work, including The Emirates Photo of the Season and the Barclays Shot of the Season during a career that has seen him covering major sporting events all over the world.

Indeed, it was quite a coup for Ricay when they secured his services in November 2016 – and his pictures during his time at the club have now been put together in the ‘Billericay Nicky' book.

During that period, the club has undergone several sizable transformations, both on and off the field, and considerably greater than at any time throughout their 141-year history.

Blues co-owner, Nick Hutt explained: “During this latest lockdown, Nicky and I had a think about what we could do to cheer everyone up and he came up with the idea of the book.

“I think that Nicky and his daughter Sian have done a terrific job with it and it certainly brings back lots of fond memories.

“Nicky is a great asset to the club. He is a really nice guy and a fabulous photographer. He is one of the best in his field and we are extremely fortunate to have him at Billericay Town.”

New Lodge has become home for Hayes, who added: “Everyone at the club has made me feel welcome, right from the day I arrived.

“The club has always been helpful and supported me. As much as it is nice to have my name put to a book, I wanted it to be something everyone here could enjoy.

“Compiling the pictures evoked a whole host of memories. Football doesn't always smile on us but it does stir emotions. I wanted to capture all of that, after all – that is what being a footballer or a supporter is all about.”

The book, titled ‘Billericay Nicky' is available from the Billericay Town Club Shop, priced at £15 or £12.50 for season ticket holders.
