Macclesfield Town assistant boss Efe Sodje leaves club

assistant manager Efe Sodje has left the Silkmen, the club have confirmed.

The 41-year-old former Macclesfield defender re-joined the outfit as assistant to John Askey in the summer of 2013.

A year later, he briefly left Macc due to budget constraints but returned soon after. However, the former Nigeria international has now gone for good.

In a brief statement posted on their website, the Silkmen said: “Macclesfield Town can today announce that Efe Sodje has left his position at the club.

“The football club will be making no further comment on this matter.”

There has been some positive news on the pitch for Macclesfield, however, with Irish centre-back Neill Byrne signing a new one-year deal.

The 23-year-old, who joined from last summer, told the club's website: “I think everyone's mindset needs to be into the play-offs, up the top of the table.

“Towards the end of last season, I think if you checked the form table we would've been up there, so if we can start off like that who says we can't be up there?”
