REDS had victory snatched from their grasp after Merthyr substitute Kyle Copp netted direct from an 89th minute free kick.
The Welshmen were kept at bay from as early as the seventh minute when Reds goalkeeper Ethan Ross dived full stretch to flick the ball off the head of incoming Kerry Morgan.
Merthyr went onto create a string of chances with former Bristol Rovers player Eliot Richards and Ian Traynor both firing wide of the mark.
