SOUTHPORT and Gloucester City kicked off their seasons with a hard-earned point in an entertaining clash at the Pure Stadium.

Gloucester took the lead in the ninth minute when a corner fell to unmarked Matt McClure, whose effort took a few deflections inside the box, wrong-footing goalkeeper Cameron Mason.
Gloucester’s joy would last just six minutes when McClure handled Connor Woods’ shot inside the box. Marcus Carver stepped up to hammer his penalty down the middle.
