MACCLESFIELD gave leaders South Shields their first defeat of the season.
The Silkmen started brightly with Danny Elliott calling Shields keeper Jasper Sheik in to action to claim a low cross early on.
Robbie Tinkler made inroads for the visitors, as the captain drove forward, but his dipping effort was simple for Max Dearnley.
Elliott almost produced a spectacular opener on the half an hour mark, catching a half-volley sweetly from distance, forcing a back-pedalling Jasper Sheik to tip round the post.
