Shrewsbury Town fan Gavin Cowan says taking charge of the League Two strugglers is a dream come true.
The 44-year-old stepped away from his role at Brackley Town on Thursday to replace Michael Appleton, who was sacked after Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at Cambridge United.
As a player, Cowan made 24 league appearances for Shrewsbury between 2005 and 2007, and has lived in the area ever since.
Spells at Nuneaton and AFC Telford United followed before the defender took the manager’s job of the Bucks in 2018, where he stayed for three years.
