On this week’s edition of the Non-League Goalmouth, Editor at Large Matt Badcock and Executive Editor Jon Couch are joined by the Non-League Paper’s Midlands correspondent, Andy Mitchell, to talk through all the latest in Non-League!
The National League title race is nearing its thrilling conclusion as we head into the final two games with the sides separated by two points, as York City currently sits at the top of the table on 104 points after back-to-back wins.
But as we’ve seen all season long, you can expect even more twists and turns in this exhilarating battle for a spot in the Football League next season.
It’s been a fantastic week for Southend United, who confirmed their place in the play-offs whilst also selling over 16,000 tickets for their trip to Wembley in the Isuzu FA Trophy final against Wealdstone in May.
Title glory & promotion battles
There were a number of teams who secured promotion up to the next tier of football for the 2026/27 campaign, namely Harborough Town, Leighton Town, Three Bridges and Nuneaton Town.
Yet there are several key promotion battles to be decided, including in the National League North, where South Shields and AFC Fylde are toe-to-toe on 94 points apiece as they both look to secure automatic promotion to Step 1 with two games to go.
National League South side Worthing will be plying their trade in the National League with a win over Ebbsfleet United and if Dorking Wanderers drop points against Bath City.
Elsewhere, in the NPL West Division, Bury can secure promotion to the Premier Division with a title victory should they beat Witton Albion and Avro drop points against Nantwich Town this Saturday.
In the NPL Midlands, Anstey Nomads have cut down Carlton Town’s advantage to go level on points and leapfrog the Millers to the top of the table, with that title race almost certainly going down to the wire.
Finally, Andy recollects us with his groundhopping adventures whilst on holiday recently.
