■AFTER three narrow wins ten-man South Shields dropped their first points of the season after Merthyr Town struck late to take a point.
Shields nearly found themselves behind early on when they were caught playing out. Jasper Sheik was closed down by Morgan Wigley, whose deflected effort went narrowly wide.
Merthyr then thought they had taken the lead through Kane Simpson, who finished past Sheik, only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.
