Ebbsfleet United have been warned they face expulsion from the National League unless they get their house in order.
The Fleet were expecting to belatedly open their National League South account at Farnborough yesterday after being suspended for the opening four games of the season for financial irregularities.
But after a meeting of the National League’s Compliance and Licensing Committee on Wednesday morning, it was decided the suspension would remain in place with Fleet yet to settle an outstanding tax bill.
The National League are still not satisfied that Fleet have the financial capacity to complete the season and have given them until 5pm on Tuesday to provide more information.
Failure to do so could result in expulsion.
Ebbsfleet, however, insist the debt has been settled following the takeover of Irish businessman John O’Leary last week.
In a statement acknowledging the suspension being continued, the club explained: “We can confirm that payment has now been made to HMRC for the full value required on the winding-up petition. Furthermore, the National League have now been sent proof of that transaction.
“The transfer of those funds, that was originally initiated on completion of the change of ownership, arrived at the club late this afternoon, regrettably after the required deadline of yesterday and the League committee meeting this morning at 10am.
“We appreciate the concern of supporters and the effect that the recent uncertainty has had on you as well as all staff and players.”
