Slough Town celebrating after FA grant awarded

By Matt Bishop
League South side have been awarded a £6000 boost in an aim to improve grassroots in the area.
The Rebels are celebrating following the news they have been handed the ‘Grow the Game' grant, a £2.5m programme funded by the FA and the Football Foundation which awards clubs the chance to create new teams and develop their facilities, particularly for under-represented groups.
The money will allow Slough to progress in their formation of girls and women's football teams, improve the disability provisions at the club and introduce a men's second team and youth team in the next two years.
Last year, the ‘Grow the Game' scheme helped over 2000 teams across the country and enabled 5,715 people to achieve new coaching qualifications, and Slough's general secretary Kay Lathey is overjoyed, saying: “We are delighted to have been successful in our bid for funding from the Football Foundation.
“Now that the club is back in the town we aim to develop a provision that the whole community can benefit from and grow the club into something that the whole town is proud of.
“We have decided to focus on two areas where there is a distinct lack of provision for competitive football.”
