Non-League footballer Reece Thompson jailed for 40 months after attacking woman

Guiseley have terminated the contract of Reece Thompson after he was jailed for 40 months and received a ten-year restraining order for attacking a woman.
The former Frickley Athletic, York City, North Ferriby and Boston United striker beat a woman with an iron bar, forced her to eat paint and smashed two mirrors over her head.
Thompson, 25, pleaded guilty to damaging property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and inflicting grievous bodily harm when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on April 3.
The victim's jaw was broken and she suffered severe bruising on her body during the three-day attack.
Thompson has not played for Guiseley since the time of the assault in September and now the club have terminated his contract.
“Having now been made aware of the full details of the case, we can confirm that the players contract has been terminated with immediate effect,” a statement read.
The woman told Lincolnshire Live: “Reece repeatedly hit me.
“He hit me with an iron bar, broke my jaw and smashed a mirror over my head.
“I was made to lick paint up off the floor and then he smashed another mirror over my head.
“It was when he picked up the second mirror that I thought I was going to die, I screamed for him to stop or he would kill me.
“He told me to get my arms down and take the beating like a real person.”
