CANVEY were beaten 1-0 by last season’s National League South play-off finalists Chelmsford City – the Clarets’ fourth pre-season win on the spin.
The first half was a quiet affair with neither goalkeeper being particularly tested, but this changed after the break.
On 57 minutes two of Canvey’s new strikers linked up well and came close to opening the scoring. David Knight played the ball from the right for strike partner James Walker, but his looping effort from the front post was saved on the line.
