Dan Trenkel leaves Great Wakering Rovers after four years in charge

DAN TRENKEL has quit as player-manager of Ryman North side after four years at the club.

Trenkel tendered his resignation after Tuesday night's 4-1 home defeat to , a result that left Rovers in 16th.

He has been at the club on and off for 16 years and made 422 appearances for Rovers as a player before becoming manager.

Despite being relegated shortly after taking over, Trenkel led the club to the title in 2013-14 before finishing 15th on their return to the Ryman North last term.

Trenkel, who was in charge for 191 games, said: “I live for , I always have done and I always will. I got to a point where I didn't know what to do with our team any more and didn't know how to get the right reaction out of our players. It was at this point I realised that it was best for me to step aside.

“I would just like to thank every player that ever turned out for me and everyone at the club who has supported me through the good times and more importantly the bad.

“I leave with my head held high and a record as the club's most successful manager, from a trophy winning perspective, which is something I'm very proud of.

“It's been a fantastic four years as manager. Yet, I feel I have more to offer as a player, so I am not interested in looking at other management opportunities at the moment. I, like every other manager, put seven days a week effort into the role, which alongside my day job has taken its toll.”
