MERTHYR deservedly took the points to consolidate their position in play-off spots against a spirited Wimborne side who certainly played a part in a lively encounter.
Both teams carved out good chances before the break, with Merthyr’s front three of Owain Jones, Ryan Prosser and Ian Traylor all going close.
But the Magpies came into the game, with Tobias Holmes forcing a fine save from home goalkeeper Joe Perry before curling the rebound just wide.
Luke Holmes set up Franklyn Clarke two minutes later but his shot was again blocked.
