ELLIOTT Reeves’ late strike moved Margate level on points with their mid-table Essex opponents.
Reeves got his first sight of goal after two minutes but his shot was comfortably saved by Bowers custodian Callum Chafer.
Reece Prestedge went close with a direct free kick but while Bowers forced several corners, clear chances eluded them.
Chafer saved a header from Gate’s industrious Tony Lamb and had his palms stung by Reeves’ snapshot, while Bowers’ Lewis Manor went close with a header.
