NPL title favourites South Shields put down a marker on the opening day of the season.
The Mariners scored in the first minute, kept a clean sheet and picked up all three points.
Shields weren’t at their fluent best and Mickleover were unlucky to strike the woodwork in each half.
Jason Gilchrist set up a stunning opener for Nathan Lowe who found the far top corner from just outside the box.
Darius Osei twice went close before good build up play saw Andrew Wright hit the home post from 16-yards.
