GRANTHAM’S home return to Step 4 ended in defeat to Rugby Borough as both sides struggled to control the ball on a hard bumpy pitch.
Louis Czerwak brought an early save from Marcus Bald. Grantham pushed forward but Rugby took the lead after 18 minutes when Wes York turned on the edge of the box and fired home past Jack Steggles.
Dylan Reason had a shot blocked and George Langford fired the loose ball wide.
Steggles saved from Cam Collins and Czerwak had a shot scrambled away but the half ended with Rugby leading.
