GRAYS ended a run of six straight defeats when playerboss Jamie Stuart scored the winner against Merstham 15 minutes from time.
Merstham made the early running, with only excellent keeping from Grays’ Amadou Tangara keeping it goalless. Tom Kavanagh looked odds on to score only for Tangara to save. Ibrahim Fofana was then denied by Tangara.
But they almost got the first goal. Kieran Bishop’s right-foot drive crashed off the near post, with Stuart’s follow-up saved by Moatsiders keeper Yannick Makiese.
